My Response to a “free will” religionist's blog titled “Answering Calvinism/That’s not my God”

My Response to a “free will” religionist's blog titled “Answering Calvinism/That’s not my God”

There is a typical “I chose of my own free will to believe” site that presents the usual litany of blind, unbiblical and totally void of spiritual understanding arguments against the clear teachings of the doctrine of “the purpose of God according to election.”  (Romans 9:11)

In this article the author accuses those of us who believe in the sovereign, electing grace of God as worshipping a false god, and not the God of the Bible.  He writes the following comments saying:

“I cannot see a god that saves who HE chooses,  and then arbitrarily dismisses those he doesn’t choose, as being the god of the Christian. That’s not my God. Nope, that’s not him.  I know him better than that.

The calvinist god is  not “kind” or “merciful”, except to those HE chooses. That’s how their god treats his children. Would you treat YOUR children in such a manner,? Of course not.  But the Calvinist god does. That’s not my God.

MY God is compassionate, and he is not a respector of persons, and MY God loves each and everyone of us, even those that don’t love him. Yes, that’s my God. That’s my Jesus.

On judgement day,  nobody can say “its not my fault God, I wasn’t one of the lucky ones, you didn’t pick me, so why do you now condemn me?, why?..why oh why god?”. That’s not MY God.

My God chooses ALL who choose HIM.”

My Response:

You will notice that this man has not given us a single Scripture verse to back up anything he says, and when the typical “free will” religionist DOES list the usual litany of “Gotcha” verses like John 3:16, 1 John 2:2, 2 Peter 3:9 or 1 Timothy 2:3-5, in every case they end up misunderstanding what the verses actually mean and they misapply them in such a way as to make the Bible continually contradict itself and present the true God of the Bible as being both a Liar and a colossal Failure for not having done when He said He came to do - to save HIS PEOPLE from their sins.  (Matthew 1:21)

For a list of all the usual “Gotcha free will” verses they always bring up and totally misunderstand, you can go to my site and scroll down to the bottom of the page where you will find all my articles dealing with the doctrine of Monergism (Calvinism) versus “free will” Arminiansim.

1. First of all, our Biblically ignorant “free willer” tells us  1. “I cannot see a god that saves who HE chooses….My God chooses ALL who choose HIM.”

Well, he might try reading his Bible to see what this God he talks about actually says about it.  I will list just a few verses, but you can see the more developed article titled “Did we choose God or did He choose us?”  here -

“Chosen in Christ”

In no uncertain terms God tells us in his book that “HE HATH CHOSEN US IN HIM (in Christ) BEFORE THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love; HAVING PREDESTINATED US unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, ACCORDING TO THE GOOD PLEASURE OF HIS WILL, To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.”  Ephesians 1:4-6

“But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because GOD HATH FROM THE BEGINNING CHOSEN YOU TO SALVATION through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

Whereunto HE CALLED YOU by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.”  2 Thessalonians 2:13-14.

1 Corinthians 1:26-31

26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:

27 But GOD HATH CHOSEN the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and GOD HATH CHOSEN the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, HATH GOD CHOSEN, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:

30 But OF HIM ARE YE IN Christ Jesus, who OF GOD is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

31 That, according as it is written, HE THAT GLORIETH, LET HIM GLORY IN THE LORD.”

2. Secondly this rabid anti-Calvinist tells us: “The calvinist god is not “kind” or “merciful”, except to those HE chooses. That’s how their god treats his children. Would you treat YOUR children in such a manner,? Of course not.  But the Calvinist god does. That’s not my God.”

He is seriously mistaken about two main points here.  The first one is that God Himself tells us that He has mercy on whom HE WILLS to have mercy AND He also hardens those whom HE WILLS  to harden.

And the second huge error in this man’s thinking is that we are all God’s children.  We are NOT all God’s children.  Do these people ever read their Bibles?

There are those who are God’s children and then there are the children of the devil.

The children of God and the children of the devil - The Two Spiritual Families.

In Matthew 13:24-30 the Lord Jesus tells the parable of the wheat and the tares.  He then explains its meaning in Matthew 13:36-43.

"He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man; The field is the world; THE GOOD SEED ARE THE CHILDREN OF THE KINGDOM; but THE TARES ARE THE CHILDREN OF THE WICKED ONE; The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels."

In John 10:25-29 the Lord Jesus is speaking to the unbelieving Jews who were harassing Him and demanding that He tell them if He were the Christ. Here He plainly tells them:

"I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me. BUT YE BELIEVE NOT, BECAUSE YE ARE NOT OF MY SHEEP, as I said unto you. MY SHEEP HEAR MY VOICE, and I know them, and they follow me....My Father, WHICH GAVE THEM ME, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand."

Notice that the text does not say "you are not my sheep because you don't believe" but rather "Ye believe not, BECAUSE YE ARE NOT MY SHEEP."

The same truth is seen in John 8:43-45 where Jesus says to the Pharisees and other Jews - "Why do ye not understand my speech? even BECAUSE YE CANNOT HEAR MY WORD.  YE ARE OF YOUR FATHER THE DEVIL, and the lusts of your father ye will do... And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not."

Then He explains further in John 8:47, saying, "He that IS of God heareth God's words; ye therefore hear them not, BECAUSE YE ARE NOT OF GOD."

They cannot hear and they cannot believe BECAUSE they are not His sheep and they are not of God but of their father the devil.

And Romans 9:6-8 clearly tells us that there are those who ARE the children of God and those who are NOT.

6 Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:

7 Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.

8 That is, They which are the children of the flesh, THESE ARE NOT THE CHILDREN OF GOD; but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.

And as for this blind “free willer’s” comment that ““The calvinist god is  not “kind” or “merciful”, except to those HE chooses.”  One has to wonder again if this guy has actually ever read his Bible.  GOD Himself tells us in Romans 9:13-24 -

13 As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.

14 What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid.

15 For he saith to Moses, I WILL HAVE MERCY ON WHOM I WILL HAVE MERCY, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

16 So then IT IS NOT OF HIM THAT WILLETH, nor of him that runneth, BUT OF GOD  that sheweth mercy.

17 For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.

18 Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, AND WHOM HE WILL HE HARDENETH.”

19 Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will?

20 Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?

22 What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering THE VESSELS OF WRATH FITTED TO DESTRUCTION:

23 And that he might make known the riches of his glory on THE VESSELS OF MERCY, WHICH HE HAD AFORE PREPARED UNTO GLORY,

24 EVEN US, WHOM HE HATH CALLED,  not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?

3. The third thing this anti-biblical “free willer” says is: “MY God is compassionate, and he is not a respector of persons, and MY God loves each and everyone of us.”

Again, there are two huge problems with this man’s statement.  Besides misspelling the word, he obviously does NOT know what the phrase “no respecter of persons” means.

You can find out here -  “How does the doctrine of election fit with the phrase that "God is no respecter of persons”?”

And the second point he gets totally wrong is when he tells us that “God loves each and everyone of us.”

Well, this biblically illiterate fighter against the true God of the Bible may think he has uttered a great maxim of truth, but he is directly contradicting the God of the Bible who tells us in no uncertain terms that there ARE people that He hates, and He does this many times in the Book He gave us that this guy apparently doesn’t believe.

"And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste"  Malachi 1:3

"Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated." Romans 9:13

For many more examples see “Does God Love Everybody?”

The only thing I can agree with this rabidly anti-Election biblically ignorant man is that it is quite possible that he (and others like him), and I plus thousands of other blood bought children of God all through history do NOT worship the same God.  He just might be right about that one.

This man has created a god of his own imagination. It is NOT the true God revealed in “the scripture of truth.”  (Daniel 10:21)

“These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; THOU THOUGHTEST THAT I WAS ALTOGETHER SUCH AN ONE AS THYSELF; but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes.” (Psalms 50:21)

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”  (Isaiah 55:8-9)

ALL of grace, believing the Book and the God who inspired it,

Will Kinney
