"Free Will" Theology Makes The Cross of Christ of None Effect

“Free Will” Theology makes the cross of Christ of none effect.

What did the Lord Jesus Christ accomplish at the cross with his substitutionary death, burial and resurrection?

He told us that he came “to give his life a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:28

The prophesy at his birth was: “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: FOR HE SHALL SAVE HIS PEOPLE FROM THEIR SINS.”  Matthew 1:21

The Lord Jesus tells us: “I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd GIVETH HIS LIFE FOR THE SHEEP.” John 10:11

And “As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: AND I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR THE SHEEP.  OTHER SHEEP I HAVE, which are not of this fold: THEM ALSO I MUST BRING, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.”  John 10:15-16.

Jesus lays down His life for the sheep, not the goats.  They already ARE His sheep even before He dies for them and before they hear His voice.

The “other sheep I have” refers to the elect of God among the Gentiles who would hear His voice and believe.  But they are already His sheep and it is for them that He lays down His life.

“All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of US all…for the transgression of MY PEOPLE WAS HE STRICKEN.”  Isaiah 53:6-8

The apostle Peter refers to this prophesy in 1 Peter 2:24-25 saying: “Who is own self bare OUR SINS in his own body on the tree, that we, BEING DEAD TO SINS, should live unto righteousness: BY HIS STRIPES YE WERE HEALED.  For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.”

We are His sheep and He bare the sins His people. He was not  stricken for those who are not and never will be His people.

The apostle Paul tells us: “Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ LOVED THE CHURCH, AND GAVE HIMSELF FOR IT.”  Ephesians 5:25.

It is for the church that Christ gave Himself. He did not give Himself for those who never would become part of His church.

In Acts 20:28 the apostle Paul exhorts the elders of the church "to feed the church of God, which he HATH PURCHASED with his own blood."  It is an accomplished redemption of a specific people.

“But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved US, Even when we were dead in sins, HATH QUICKENED US TOGETHER WITH CHRIST, (by grace ye are saved;) AND HATH RAISED US UP TOGETHER, and made us SIT TOGETHER IN HEAVENLY PLACES IN CHRIST JESUS.”  Ephesians 2:4-6

The Bible clearly teaches in several places that when Christ died, we died; and when Christ rose from the dead, we also rose from the dead TOGETHER WITH HIM.

This is not presented as a “potential” or a mere possibility IF you only have faith, but as an accomplished reality of redemption, even before most of us were ever born.  This is what Christ did for His people at the cross.  It is taught as an accomplished fact.

The gospel is not about something God WANTS to do, or TRIES to do, or OFFERS to do. It it about something God DID.

And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, HATH HE QUICKENED TOGETHER WITH HIM, having forgiven you all trespasses, Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, NAILING IT TO HIS CROSS.” Colossians 2:14.

“If YE THEN BE RISEN WITH CHRIST, seek those things which are above…FOR YE ARE DEAD, and your life is hid with Christ in God.”  Colossians 3:1-3.

The Bible itself clearly teaches that Christ gave His life for His sheep, and we were His sheep before He calls us by name - “He calleth his own sheep by name” John 10:3.

When He died on the cross of Calvary, we died together with Him; and when He rose, we also were raised together with Him. We were in Him positionally when He died and we were in Him when He was raised from the dead.  We are even now seated with Him in the heavenly places!  The redemption of His people is that certain.

The Lord Jesus tells us in no uncertain words “I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.”  (John 17:4)

“As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give ETERNAL LIFE TO AS MANY AS THOU HAST GIVEN HIM.” (John 17:2)

“I pray for THEM; I pray NOT for the world, but FOR THEM WHICH THOU HAST GIVEN ME; FOR THEY ARE THINE.” (John 17:9)

“Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word.” (John 17:20)

These are presented as accomplished FACTS, not as “only potentially true if and when you believe of your own free will.”

"Limited Atonement"? or "Particular Redemption"?

See this 2 and 1/2 minute Youtube response by Charles Spurgeon.  Which side really limits the atonement? According to free-will Arminian theology, the death of Christ actually saved NO ONE

So How does Free Will Theology Make the Cross of the Lord Jesus of None Effect?

As for the Christians who say: “I chose of my own free will to believe the gospel and that is what made the difference between me and the guys who didn’t believe.”, ask them this simple question.

Do you believe that ANYBODY was IN FACT and UNCONDITIONALLY redeemed, reconciled to God and forgiven all their sins at the time when the Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross, was buried and rose again?

IF they are consistent in their “free will” belief, they will have to say that they do not.  In their thinking the death of Christ only “provided A POTENTIAL” Redemption and Reconciliation to God. It just made Redemption “POSSIBLE IF YOU ACCEPT IT”.

They will tell you that YOU have to “do your part” and cast your vote for God and “ACCEPT Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour" by an act of your own FREE WILL CHOICE in order for the death of Christ to have any real effect or value for YOU.

They will tell you that Christ did HIS part, but that it means NOTHING and is to no avail UNLESS AND UNTIL YOU make a free will choice to “ACCEPT THE OFFER of salvation.”

THAT is what every “free willer” really believes.

And it ends up making the death of Christ of no effect and it makes the Lord Jesus out to be both a Liar and a Failure for not having done what He said He came to do - to save HIS PEOPLE from their sins.

The “natural man” who “receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness unto him; NEITHER CAN HE KNOW THEM, because they are spiritually discerned.” (1 Corinthians 2:14) absolutely HATES the doctrine of the sovereign purpose of God according to election.

The Holy words of God clearly teach that  “the will of the flesh” has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO with the new birth  -   But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

And the natural "will" of man has nothing to do with whether The Potter made him “out of the same lump” either a vessel of wrath fitted to destruction or a vessel of mercy which God “had afore prepared unto glory.”  Romans 9.

“So then IT IS NOT OF HIM THAT WILLETH, nor of him that runneth, BUT OF GOD THAT SHEWETH MERCY.” (Romans 9:16)

In an effort to try to “explain away” the clear meaning of so many verses of Scripture in God’s book that teach his electing grace, the rabid “free will” Fantasy lovers will marshal together a laundry list of “Gotcha” verses they do NOT understand, they misapply and that always end up contradicting the other Scriptures.

I deal with all the usual suspects at my website “Another King James Bible believer”, and attempt to show why these verses do NOT mean what they WANT them to mean, and how the doctrines of God’s electing grace are the absolute truth revealed by Almighty God who “worketh all things after the counsel of his own will” (Ephesians 1:11) and “According to THE ETERNAL PURPOSE which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Ephesians 3:11)

The whole point of Calvinism is that it is the Truth and it gives ALL the glory to God and humbles man in the dust, where we belong.

The "Free will" Fantasy exalts man, tries to take credit for something the flesh did not do, and robs God of his glory.

Free will theology is right out of the Roman Catholic Catechism.

If you go to my site and scroll down to the bottom of the page, there you will see a section called “Monergism (Calvinism) verses Synergism (Arminianism)”

There you will find the individual articles that deal with such verses as John 3:16 “God so loved the world”, 2 Peter 3:9 “not willing that any should perish”, 1 John 2:2 “he is the propitiation for our sins”, 1 Timothy 2:3-5 “who will have all men to be saved”, Revelation 22:17 “whosoever will” and many others.

“But OF HIM are ye in Christ Jesus, who OF GOD is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.”  1 Corinthians 1:30-31

May God in His grace give us ears to hear.

God bless.
