What about The Concordant Literal Version?

What about The Concordant Literal Version?

The Concordant Version is an English translation compiled by the Concordant Publishing Concern (CPC), which was founded by  Adolph Ernst Knoch in 1909. It has been “revised” a few times over the years.

You can see this version here -

 https://studybible.info/CLV

It omits about 7 entire verses from the New Testament and about 2000 other words. It is the creation of a man who  made his own mind and personal preferences his “final authority” and it differs from every Bible ever printed in any language in history.

He took it upon himself to create his new “bible” by trying to determine for himself what he thought were the original readings based primarily from the so called “oldest and best manuscripts” that all came out of Egypt.  There are Codex Vaticanus, Sinaiticus and Alexandrinus.

He rejected outright both the Traditional Reformation Bible text (the Textus Receptus) and the Majority text, and chose instead to rummage through the Egyptian manuscripts, that are in constant disagreement among themselves.

One of the major problems he ran into with this methodology is that these three “oldest and best manuscripts” often differ from each other.

So the Concordant version skips around, sometimes following Alexandrinus when Sinaiticus and Vaticanus omit a verse or phrase, and then reverses itself and follows Sinaiticus and Vaticanus in omitting words, when they are found in Alexandrinus.   And then he rejects both Sinaiticus and Alexandrinus and follows the Vatican reading instead.

Such are the ways of the Every Man For Himself Versionists.  “In those days there was no king in Israel; every man did that which was right in his own eyes.”  Judges 21:25.

The Concordant, just like the Catholic versions, omits these words from the Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6:13 “For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory, for ever. Amen.”

If the Bible correctors can remove these words from Matthew 6:13, then they can get rid of anything. The evidence for these words is massive and widespread throughout history.  You can see my study on this verse here -

The Lord's Prayer - Is your Bible a Vatican Version?

http://brandplucked.webs.com/matthew613.htm

The Concordant OMITS  these entire verses:

Omits Matthew 17:21 -  Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

Omits Matthew 18:11 - For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.

Omits Matthew 23:14 - Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.

Omits Luke 17:36 - Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

Yet the Concordant includes some whole verses that are omitted in versions like the ESV, NIV, NASB.

It includes Mark 7:16  (in A, but not in Sin. or Vat.) -  If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.

Mark 9:44 and 46  (in A but not Sin. or Vat.) -  where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

It includes all of Mark 16:9-20 because found in A but not in Sin. or Vat.

Includes Mark 11:26  (in A but not in Sin. or Vat.) - But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.

In Luke 9:55-56 it reverses its method and now it omits these words that ARE found in Alexandrinus, but not in Sinaiticus and Vaticanus

Concordant reads; 55 Now, being turned, He rebukes them.

56 And they went into a different village.

Whereas the KJB and Reformation bibles read -

55 But he turned, and rebuked them, AND SAID, YE KNOW NOT WHAT MANNER OF SPIRIT YE ARE OF. 56 FOR THE SON OF MAN IS NOT COME TO DESTROY MEN’S LIVES, BUT TO SAVE THEM. And they went to another village.

In Luke 10:1 and 17 the Concordant reverses itself once again and tells us that Jesus sent out SEVENTY-TWO, instead of SEVENTY.  And they get this reading from the Vatican manuscript, yet both Sinaiticus and Alexandrinus read 70 and not 72.

The Concordant again switches their “scientific” method in Luke 23:17 and includes this verse - “17 Now of necessity he had to release one for them at the festival.”, even though both Alexandrinus and Vaticanus omit it, yet this time they follow Sinaiticus instead.

It includes all of John 5:4 - “4 (For a messenger of the Lord at a certain season bathed in the pool and disturbed the water. He, then, who first steps in after the disturbing of the water, became sound of whatsoever disease he was held.)

because found in A, but not in Sin. or Vat.

It Omits all of Acts 8:37  - “And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

It omits Romans 16:24 -  The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

And of course it omits the witness to the Trinity in 1 John 5:7 and simply has “7 seeing that three there are that are testifying”  The man who put together this monstrosity denies the Trinity and the Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Whereas the KJB reads: “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

The Concordant Version bounces around willy nilly from manuscript to manuscript. There is NO consistency at all in this fake bible version that hardly anybody has even heard of.

You will only run into the occasional Loony Toons bible version rummager who actually thinks this perversion is worth having, let alone believing that it is the inerrant words of God.

Get yourself the King James Bible. It is God's inerrant Book and the only one thousands of God's people really believe is the infallible words of the living God.

From the Internet - More about this Concordant perversion comes to light.

The Concordant Version

One of the goofiest pieces of junk out there on the internet that some guys have come up with as their “bible” is the Concordant Version.

A man who uses this abomination ignorantly criticizes the King James Bible and ALL bibles posted the following examples of what he thinks are “errors”, not only in the King James Bible but in virtually every bible out there.

He told us concerting the King James Bible - “It mistranslates sheol, hades, Gehenna and Tartarus all as hell. Hell, or Hel, is the Norse goddess of the underworld. Her father is Loki, the trickster.”

If you look at the Concordant Version you will see that the word HELL does not appear one single time in the entire translation.

See my article on the doctrine of Hell in the King James Bible..

 https://brandplucked.webs.com/doctrineofhell.htm

One of the main reasons the people who put together this perversion of Scripture may not like the word HELL so much is that they teach that there is no eternal condemnation but that every individual will eventually be reconciled and saved.

The man who put this thing together, Mr. Knoch, was himself a "Christian" Universalist and he denies both the Trinity and the eternal punishment of the damned.  He believes everybody will be saved.  He has since died and now knows better.  You can see this for yourself at his own site here.

http://allinclusivegospel.com/tracts/

On their site they state the following: “God is the Saviour of all mankind at the consummation, but especially of believers during the eons (1 Tim.2:4; 4:10). At the consummation, we find all saved, justified (Rom.5:18), vivified (1 Cor. 15:22; 1 Tim, 6:13), and all the estranged reconciled (Col, 1:20). Death will be abolished (2 Tim.1:9; 1 Cor.15:26), sin having been repudiated (cf Heb.9:26), and God will be All in all (1 Cor.15:28). Through the blood of Christ’s cross, all the estranged on earth and in heaven shall be reconciled, at the consummation. The blood of the cross is for all creation (Col.1:16-20), for creation and reconciliation have the same scope. “

They also seem to teach that the Lord Jesus Christ is not God manifest in the flesh, but he is only the Son of God and the Firstborn of every creature.

In the King James Bible we read in 1 Timothy 3:16 “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: GOD WAS MANIFEST IN THE FLESH, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.”

BUT the Concordant Version merely says: “And avowedly great is the secret of devoutness, which was manifested in flesh, justified in spirit, seen by messengers, heralded among the nations, believed in the world, taken up in glory."

Instead of the word HELL in the Old Testament this guy has translated the Hebrew word as “THE UNSEEN”

Here are some examples.

Psalms 139:8 KJB - “If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in HELL, behold, thou art there.”

CV (Concordant Version) - If I should climb to the heavens, You are there, And should I make my berth in THE UNSEEN, behold, You are there."

Job 26:6 KJB - “HELL is naked before him, and destruction hath no covering.”

CV - “THE UNSEEN was naked in front of Him, And there was no covering for Abaddon.”

Psalm 9:17 KJB - “The wicked shall be turned into HELL, and all the nations that forget God.”

CV - “The wicked shall return to THE UNSEEN, All the nations, forgetful of Elohim.”

When we get to the New Testament we see the same confusion.

HELL - Hades. (10 times hell in the KJB)

Matthew 16:18 KJB - “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of HELL shall not prevail against it.”

CV - “Now I, also, am saying to you that you are Peter, and on this rock will I be building My ecclesia, and the gates of THE UNSEEN shall not be prevailing against it."

Luke 16:23 (Hades) KJB - “And in HELL he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.”

CV - “And in THE UNSEEN, lifting up his eyes, existing in torments, he is seeing Abraham from afar, and Lazarus in his bosom."

HELL - Gehenna (12 times hell in the KJB)

Matthew 10:28 KJB - “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in HELL.”

CV - “And do not fear those who are killing the body, yet are not able to kill the soul. Yet be fearing Him, rather, Who is able to destroy the soul as well as the body in GEHENNA.”

Matthew 23:33 - KJB - “Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of HELL?”

CV - “Serpents! Progeny of vipers! How may you be fleeing from the judging of GEHENNA?”

HELL - Tartaros (1 time hell in KJB)

2 Peter 2:4 KJB - “For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to HELL, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;”

CV - “For if God spares not sinning messengers, but thrusting them into the gloomy caverns of TARTARUS, gives them up to be kept for chastening judging;"

When this guy criticizes the word “Hell” he picks the absolute worst possible origin of this words

Hell, Old English hel, helle, "nether world, abode of the dead, infernal regions, place of torment for the wicked after death," from Proto-Germanic *haljō "the underworld" (source also of Old Frisian helle, Old Saxon hellia, Dutch hel, Old Norse hel, German Hölle, Gothic halja "hell"). Literally "concealed place" (compare Old Norse hellir "cave, cavern"), from PIE root *kel- (1) "to cover, conceal, save."

The English word MAY BE IN PART from Old Norse mythological Hel (from Proto-Germanic *halija "one who covers up or hides something"), in Norse mythology the name of Loki's daughter who rules over the evil dead in Niflheim, the lowest of all worlds (nifl "mist").

Yet he seems to have no qualms about using the word Tartarus, which itself is a mythological term.

“Tartarus (n.)

in Homer and older Greek mythology, the sunless abyss below Hades, from Greek Tartaros, of uncertain origin; "prob. a word of imitative origin, suggestive of something frightful" [Klein]. Later in Greek almost synonymous with Hades.

He further criticizes the word AION and AIONIOS as eternity and forever, yet all Bible translations, and not just the King James Bible, have done it this way.

He says: “The KJV mistranslates AION and AIONIOS as eternity and forever, instead of age and age-long. The Concordant transliterates those words for clarity as eon and eonian.”

Eon and eonian are for “clarity”???!!!

So in the Concordant Version we read such things as this.

John 3:16 CV - “For thus God loves the world, so that He gives His only-begotten Son, that everyone who is believing in Him should not be perishing, but may be having LIFE EONIAN.”

And - Matthew 25:46 - “And these shall be coming away into chastening EONIAN, yet the just into life EONIAN.”

Yes, indeedy, MUCH clearer, right?

This self appointed Bible critic further states: “The Greek psuche meaning soul appears 103 times in the NT. It always means soul, yet the KJV translates it as such only 58 times, mistranslating it as heart (2 times), life (40), and mind (3). There are Greek words for heart, life, and mind, and psuche isn't one of them.

So if you were to search the KJV NT for soul - to gain a deeper understanding of its meaning - you would miss almost half the references to it, and have no way of knowing that.  I can assure you that psuche in the example I gave above always means soul. Thus it is mistranslated in the KJV NT almost half the time. Also Gehenna never means a place of endless torture, no matter what the context.”

And once again this self appointed “scholar” who is his own authority is not only criticizing the King James Bible but all bibles out there.

The Greek word psukee DOES have several meanings, just as the Hebrew word nephesh has multiple meanings in the Old Testament.

As for the Hebrew word nephesh # 5315, the most common meaning is "soul' but it also means many other things besides and virtually every translation does this.

One example of this silly Concordant version is Numbers 6:6. This is just by way of illustration.

The KJB, as well as the NKJV, ESV, NASB, NIV, Holman, NET and the Jewish translations like the 1917 Jewish Publication Society all translate Numbers 6:6 when referring to a Nazarite that "All the days that he separateth himself unto the Lord he shall come at no dead BODY."

Here the word nephesh is translated as "body". But the goofy Concordant version says: "All the days of his sequestration to Yahweh he shall not come near a dead SOUL."

If someone is dead, their soul is no longer there with the dead body. It has returned to God who gave it and is either with him in heaven or in that place called hell.

Just as an example, the NASB complete concordance tells us that they have translated this single Hebrew word nephesh as "soul, any, appetite, being, body, breath, corpse, death, desire, discontented, endure, feelings, fierce, greedy, heart, self, himself, human, hunger, life, lifeblood, living creature, longing, man, mind, myself, numbers, passion, people, perfume, person, slave, thirst, throat, will, wish, and yourselves."

I can do the same for the ESV or the NIV or for the Jewish translations, and I think they might know more about their own Hebrew language than this goofy self appointed authority does who put together this Concordant thingy no one has head of.

As for the New Testament Greek word psukee, (ψυχη) virtually every Bible out there has translated it as both “soul” and “life” and other things as well.

The NASB’s Complete Concordance tells us that they have translated the Greek word ψυχη as: “everyone, heart, heartily, life, lives, mind, person, soul and thing.”

Likewise the NIV Concordance for their 1984 edition tells us they have translated the Greek word ψυχη as: “life, soul, heart, minds, you, being, man, people and thing.”

The Lexicons

Liddell and Scott’s Greek-English Lexicon 1887 tells us that the Greek word ψυχη means such varied things as: “breath, life, soul, spirit, also the seat of the will, desires and passions, the heart, mind, reason and understanding.”

Thayer’s Greek-English Lexicon informs us that the Greek word ψυχη means: “the breath, life, the soul, the seat of feelings, desires, affections, aversions, our heart.”

And The Greek-English Lexicon by Bauer, Arndt and Gingrich tells us the Greek word ψυχη means such varied things as: “the breath of life, the soul, our feelings and emotions, our hearts, and the mind.”

The King James Bible is right and this self-appointed bible critic who not only has put together another Fake bible version but also teaches rank heresy is wrong.
