Another King James Bible Believer

2 Peter 2:4 Hell or Tartaros?

2 Peter 2:4 Hell or Tartaros?  - ταρταροσ

King James Bible -  “For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to HELL, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment”

The word  Tartaros is found only one time in the entire Bible, and that is here in 2 Peter 2:4.

“Tartarus is of Greek origin and refers to “the subterranean region, doleful and dark, regarded by the Greeks as the abode of the wicked dead, where they suffer punishment for their evil deeds; it answers to Gehenna of the Jews.”

Thayer’s Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament, page 615.

“Tartarus was either the nether-world generally, or a place of torment and punishment”

Liddell & Scott’s Greek-English Lexicon, 1887, page 692.

Bible scholars seem to differ among themselves as to whether Tartaros is equivalent to Hell, or a part or separate section of Hell or Gehanna -  the Gehenna of fire, or if it is a special place of torment and imprisonment that is reserved exclusively for the fallen angels.

In any event, it is a very unpleasant place to be and their final judgment seems to be yet future - “reserved unto judgment”.

And since the Lord Jesus gives us His words in Matthew 25:41, where He says: “Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.” -

and we are told in Revelation 20:14 that “death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.” it seems that the English word HELL for Tartaros is a perfectly acceptable and accurate translation.
