Another King James Bible Believer

Revelation 1:13 "the Son of man...girt about the PAPS"

Revelation 1:13 “the Son of man…girt about the PAPS with a golden girdle”

There is a spirit of whoredoms at work today to undermine faith in the Bible and to discredit its infallibility. This unclean spirit is seen both in the devilish religion of the Muslims that attack the Bible, and especially the King James Bible, and among professing Christians who themselves are bible agnostics (they do not know for sure what God’s words are or where to find them) who do not believe that any Bible in any language IS or ever was the complete, inspired and 100% true words of the living God.

They particularly attack and criticize the ONLY Bible believed by thousands of blood bought saints of God to be the true “book of the LORD” (Isaiah 34:16) - the Authorized King James Holy Bible.

One such silly and ignorant attack is this one where a Muslim site titles their article “Did Jesus have female breasts?”.

The Muslim link:

http://www.answering-christianity.com/abdullah_smith/did_jesus_have_female_breasts.htm

Revelation 1:13, in the King James Version, says, “And I saw in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle”.

“Paps” is the archaic word for a woman’s breasts. In the Greek, the word used is the plural mastos, which the lexicon defines as “the breast, esp., of the swelling breast of a woman”.

Rarely, the plural was used to refer to a man’s breasts, but the prevailing sense is female. The fact that the figure in this passage from Revelation wore a “girdle”, or cincture, about the breasts—the modern equivalent would be a brassiere—confirms that the breasts in question are female. Indeed, the New English Bible translates the plural as though it were a singular—“with a golden girdle round his breast”. The New Revised Standard Version tried to avoid any embarrassment by wrongly translating it as “chest”. (The Pagan Christ, p. 211)

[End of the Muslim Bible critic’s comments]

This is the type of devilish ignorance the true Bible believer runs into today. So how do we address this issue? Simple -  through a little bit of knowledge both of our own English language and of the meaning of this particular Greek word that is correctly translated in our King James Bible as “paps”.

We will also look at the meaning of the English word “breast”. A little knowledge about the richness of our own English language will go a long ways in clearing up many alleged “errors” in the King James Bible and will help educate those who have been so dumbed down by today’s public education system.

By the way, a “girdle” is not a bra or a brassiere, as this Muslim article ignorantly tells us. Look it up. A girdle is defined as “a belt or sash” or “anything that surrounds or encircles”.

The Greek word in question is mastos and it is found only three times in the texts that underlie the greatest Bible ever printed - the King James Bible. It is translated all three times as “paps”. The references are Luke 11:27 “and the paps thou hast sucked”; Luke 23:29 “Blessed are…the paps which never gave suck.” and here in Revelation 1:13 “girt about the paps with a golden girdle.”

The Greek word mastos. The Lexicons.

Bauer, Arndt and Gingrich’s Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament define mastos as meaning: “the breast of a man” and then they quote Revelataion 1:13 as it stands in the King James Bible. The second definition is “the breast of a woman” and give the references of Luke 11:27 and 23:29.

Thayer’s Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament defines the Greek word mastos as 1. “the breasts or nipples of a man.” and then cites Revelation 1:13 and 2. “the breasts of a woman.”

And Liddell & Scott’s Greek-English Lexicon likewise defines mastos as meaning: “a woman’s breast” and “generally, of the breasts of all mammals.”

Even in today’s modern English we have sites all over the internet such as this one where they use the word “breast” when talking about men, and the word “mastectomy” comes literally from this same Greek word mastos, meaning the breasts or paps of a man.

Male Breast Cancer, Mastectomy Surgery for Male Breast Cancer.

http://surgery.about.com/od/proceduresaz/a/MaleMastectomy.htm

The Bible itself also uses the word “breast” to refer to both the male and the female chest area. Daniel 2:32 describes the golden image Nebuchadnezzar set up as: “The image’s head was of fine gold, HIS BREAST and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass.”

In Luke 18:13 we read of the repentant publican who would not so much as lift up his eyes unto heaven “but smote upon HIS BREAST, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.”

And in John 13:25 and 21:20 we read where the disciple John “lying on Jesus’ BREAST saith unto him, Lord, who is it?”

Webster’s English Dictionary defines the word “paps” as “a nipple of the breast; a teat.” Question - Do mean have nipples? Duh! Well, of course we do.

Webster’s English Dictionary likewise defines the English word “breast” as meaning: 1.either of two milk-secreting glands protruding from the upper, front part of a woman’s body. or 2. the upper, front part of the body, between the shoulders, neck and abdomen. Question- Do men also have a breast? Well Doctors and surgeons today call it Breast Cancer even is it’s a man who has it.

The Muslims, just like today's "Christian" bible agnostics are going to try to find fault with the Bible no matter what you tell them. If you answer one objection, they just go right on to the next one they think they can find. They are not looking for answers but for errors.

The English word paps means nipples or teats. Are the Muslims going to tell us that males of both animals and men do not have nipples or teats? They are assuming only one definition of the word, and not consistently applying the term to all its applications.

The word 'paps’ in Revelation 1:13 to describe the nipple area or teat area is also found in the following English Bible translations: Tyndale 1525 - “and gyrd aboute the pappes with a golden gyrdle”, the Great Bible 1540, Matthew’s Bible 1549, the Bishops Bible 1568, the Geneva bible 1587 -“and girded about the pappes with a golden girdle.”, the Douay-Rheims 1582, the Beza New Testament 1599, the Bill Bible 1671, Whiston’s N.T. 1745, the Clarke N.T. 1795, Webster’s Translation 1833 and Etheridge 1849 and Murdock’s 1852 translations of the Syriac Peshitta, the Hussey N.T. 1845, The Hewett N.T. 1850, The Revised New Testament 1862 - "girt about THE PAPS", the Dillare N.T. 1885, the Douay-Rheims American Edition 1899, The Word of Yah 1993, God's First Truth 1999, The Tomson New Testament 2002,The Evidence Bible 2003, The Revised Geneva Bible 2005, The Revised Tyndale N.T. 2007, the Hebraic Transliteration Scripture 2010 - “and girt about the PAPS with a zahaven girdle.”, the Revised Douay-Rheims Bible 2012, and the BRG Bible 2012.

Many modern versions have the word "breasts" or “breast” and now some of them are changing this to "chest". There is nothing strictly wrong about these modern translations, but to criticize the only Bible that Christians actually believe is God’s infallible words because it uses the word “paps” is just ignorance of the English language.

Paps means the nipples or teats (not tits) and ALL human beings and most mammals including dogs, pigs, monkeys, cats etc. have nipples too whether they be male or female.

The Webster’s New World English Dictionary defines “teat” as “the small protuberance on the breast or udder, through which the milk passes in suckling the young; NIPPLE; PAP.”

The King James Bible is always right. It is God’s infallible Book. Don’t let the Bible agnostics or the devil’s own turn you into an unbeliever in the infallibility of the greatest Book God has given to the world - the Authorized King James Holy Bible.
