Mormons, Original Onlyists, Bible Agnostics and KJB believers.
Objection: The King James Bible onlyists are a cult. The Mormons are also KJV Only.”
Response: It is almost humorous to see the pathetic attempts those who in fact do NOT believe that ANY Bible in ANY language IS or ever WAS the complete, inspired and infallible words of God will go in order to try to justify their own unbelief in the inerrancy of any Bible in print anywhere on this earth.
In an ignorant attempt to label the King James Bible believers as “heretics” and “cultists” they try to link this same belief in an inerrant Bible to a true cult like the Mormonism.
For a good 6 minute video on The True Beliefs of Mormonism see -
So the King James Bible critics tell us -“Well, the Mormons are also KJV Only.”
This, of course, is simply NOT true at all.
Joseph Smith not only did NOT believe the King James Bible was the infallible words of God, but his views were very much in line with what all our KJB opponents believe. He was an “Originals Onlyist”!!!
Joseph Smith wrote: "I BELIEVE THE BIBLE AS IT READ WHEN IT CAME FROM THE PEN OF THE ORIGINAL WRITERS. Ignorant translators, careless transcribers, or designing and corrupt priests have committed many errors" (Translation of Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 327).
And Joseph Smith’s devoted followers have also picked up the “No Bible is inerrant” mantra, just like we hear from all the followers of the James White, Dan Wallace, James Price, and D. A. Carson’s of the academic world and all other King James Bible critics out there in Bible Babble Buffet Land today.
Mormon Apostle Orson Pratt stated: “Add all this imperfection to the uncertainty of the translation, and who, in his right mind, could for one moment suppose the Bible in its present form to be a perfect guide? Who knows that even one verse of the Bible has escaped pollution, so as to convey the same sense now that it did IN THE ORIGINAL?” (Divine Authority of the Book of Mormon, pp. 45, 47)
ORIGINALS ONLY (same old "original" bible agnostic lie)
Joseph Smith declared, "I believe the Bible as it read when it came from the pen of the original writers. Ignorant translators, careless transcribers, or designing and corrupt priests have committed many errors" Teachings of Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 327).
Manuscripts need CORRECTION
McConkie said: “The Bible of the Old World has come to us from the manuscripts of antiquity - manuscripts which passed through the hands of uninspired men who changed many parts to suit their own doctrinal ideas. Deletions were common, and, as it now stands, many plain and precious portions and many covenants of the Lord have been lost. As a consequence, those who rely upon it [the Bible] alone stumble and are confused... (The Ensign, December 1985, p 55).
Here is one of their own Mormon sites that explains what Mormons believe. Notice what they themselves state about their beliefs regarding the Bible.
The Mormon’s own site. They list the 13 Articles of Faith.
Number 8 on this list is this -
8. We believe the Bible to be the word of God AS FAR AS IT IS TRANSLATED CORRECTLY; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.
The Mormon’s “use” the King James Bible somewhat, but most of them have never read the whole Bible through even once, (in fact, most professing Christians never have either) and this is primarily because whoever actually wrote the Book of Mormon directly copied hundreds and even thousands of words, verses and whole sections right out of the King James Bible.
But Mormons by no means believe it is the complete, inspired and infallible words of God and their final authority for both doctrine and practice.
The books they place above the King James Bible are The Book of Mormon, The Pearl of Great Price and Doctrines and Covenants are the unique sacred books of the Mormon Church. These books are held by Mormons to be inspired by God and superior to the Bible.
So what we see is that it is the Bible agnostics, KJB critics, Bible Rummagers, self appointed “scholars” and textual critics that have far more in common with the Mormons and their views of the Bible than do the King James Bible believers.
And most of these KJB only critics who label us King James Bible believers as “cultish” and even “heretics” are themselves using and promoting the new Vatican Versions like the ESV, NIV, NASB, NET, Holman stuff that nobody believes are the complete and inerrant words of God; not even the people who keep churning them out.
To see the proof of this, take the time to actually read “Undeniable Proof the ESV, NIV, NASB, Holman Standard, NET etc. are the new "Vatican Versions"
Then go on to Part Two of "the new Vatican Versions" and look at the whole verse, phrase and word omissions comparison of versions like the ESV, NIV, NASB and the modern Catholic versions like the St. Joseph NAB and the New Jerusalem. They are all based ON THE SAME "inter confessional" critical Greek texts.
Do the Mormons believe that the King James Bible or ANY Bible in any language is the complete and infallible words of God? Of course not. And neither do any of the people who use and promote any bible version other than the King James Bible.
It is the height of irony to hear these unbelievers in the infallibility of ANY Bible accuse us King James Bible believers of being a “cult” merely because we believe God has given us an infallible Bible in the English language and we can tell anyone where to get one for themselves.
The FACT that not one of these KJB critics really believes that such a thing as a complete, inspired and 100% true and inerrant Bible in ANY language exists at all, apparently think this makes them out to be “Orthodox”!
“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!” Isaiah 5:20-21
All of grace, believing the inerrant Book of God - the King James Holy Bible.
