All the capitalized words are either omitted or in a very confused state in the constantly changing modern Vatican Versions like the ESV, NIV, NASB, NET, etc. And they STILL do not agree with each other.
The words “WHICH WENT OUT” is ἐξελθόντες. Westcott and Hort originally omitted this word because it is not found in Sinaiticus original or in Vaticanus.
But it is the reading of the Majority of all Greek manuscripts as well as Sinaiticus correction, P33, P74, A, C, D, E, P, Psi as well as the Old Latin copies of ar, c, d, dem, e, gig, l, p, ph, ro, w. It is also the reading - “which went out” - of the Syriac Peshitta, Harclean, the Coptic Sahidic, Boharic, Georgian and Slavonic ancient versions.
The previous Westcott-Hort text and the Nestle critical Greek text OMITTED the word ἐξελθόντες from their text. I have hard copies of the Nestle Critical Greek texts of the 4th edition 1934 and the 21st edition of 1975 and this word is absent from the text.
But later on, with NO additional information or “latest discoveries” being found, the latest Nestle-Aland, UBS/Vatican Critical text editors decided to put the word back in their text but in brackets - indicating doubt as to whether it is inspired Scripture or not. It now appears in the text like this [ ἐξελθόντες]
Further confusion is seen in that though Westcott and Hort omitted the word from their text, yet the Revised Version of 1881 and the ASV of 1901 BOTH included the words in their translations.
The ASV 1901 reads: “Forasmuch as we have heard that certain WHO WENT OUT from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls; to whom we gave no commandment.” Then they footnote “Some ancient authorities omit WHO WENT OUT.”
However, now that these words ARE in the UBS/Nestle-Aland/Vatican Critical Greek text, though in brackets, yet the newer NASB 1963-1995 now OMITS THEM! But others like the NIV, ESV, Holman and NET RETAIN THEM. They all have the words “who went out” in their texts. And they call this the “science” of textual criticism.
More importantly, the words “SAYING, YE MUST BE CIRCUMCISED AND KEEP THE LAW” - λέγοντες περιτέμνεσθαι καὶ τηρεῖν τὸν νόμον - are omitted by the Vatican Versions like the ESV, NIV, NASB, NET, Holman, etc. This is because they are not found in Sinaiticus, Vaticanus, A or D.
By the way, in the first part of this verse where it says “certain from US”, Sinaiticus original actually said “certain of YOU”, but was later corrected by a later scribe.
But all these words - “SAYING, YE MUST BE CIRCUMCISED AND KEEP THE LAW” - are found in the Majority of all Greek manuscripts including C, E, L, P, Psi, the Syriac Peshitta, Harclean, Armenian, Ethiopic and Slavonic ancient versions. This is also the reading of the Reformation Bibles in all languages.
It is the Roman Catholic versions, both old and new, that omit the words “SAYING, YE MUST BE CIRCUMCISED AND KEEP THE LAW”, and the new Vatican Versions. These are the ever changing Critical text versions like the RV, ASV, NIV, RSV, NRSV, ESV, NASB, Dan Wallace’s NET, the Holman, the Catholic St. Joseph NAB 1970, New Jerusalem bible 1985 and the Jehovah Witness New World Translation 1961 and 2013.
All these words are found in Tyndale 1534, Coverdale 1535, the Great Bible 1540, Matthew’s Bible 1549, the Bishops’ Bible 1568, the Geneva Bible 1587, Mace N.T. 1729, John Wesley’s N.T. 1755, Worsley Version 1770, Webster’s translation 1833, Noyes Translation 1869, Darby 1890, Young’s 1898, Lamsa’s translation of the Syriac Peshitta 1933, the NKJV 1982, The Word of Yah 1993, The Interlinear Greek N.T. 1997 (Larry Pierce), Third Millennium Bible 1998, God’s First Truth 1999, The Last Days Bible 1999 (Ray Johnson), The Resurrection Life N.T. 2005 (Vince Garcia), The Apostolic Bible 2006, English Majority Text 2009 (Paul Esposito), The Hebraic Transliteration Scripture 2010, the Jubilee Bible 2010, Holy Scriptures VW Edition 2010 (Paul Becker), Biblos Interlinear 2011, Conservative Bible 2011, World English Bible 2012, the 2014 Natural Israelite Bible and the The Modern Literal Version N.T. 2015 (Allen Walker).
Among foreign language Bibles that read like the KJB and the Reformation Bibles are Luthers German Bible 1545 and the German Schlachter bible 2000, the Spanish Sagradas Escrituras 1569, Cipriano de Valera 1602 and the Spanish Reina Valera 1909 - 1995 (but removed from the 2011 UBS edition) - “ Por cuanto hemos oído que algunos que han salido de nosotros, a los cuales no dimos orden, os han inquietado con palabras, perturbando vuestras almas, mandando circuncidaros y guardar la Ley”, the Italian Diodati 1649, La Nuova Diodati 1991 and the 2006 Riveduta - “dicendo che bisogna che siate circoncisi e osserviate la legge”, the French Martin 1744, French Ostervald 1998 and the 2007 French Louis Segond - “en vous disant de vous faire circoncire et de respecter la loi.”, the Portuguese Almeida Corregida 1681 - “dizendo que deveis circuncidar-vos e guardar a lei”, the Russian Synodal Version, Smith & van Dyke’s Arabic Bible, the Dutch Staten Vertaling, the Romanian Fidela Bible 2014 and the 1998 Tagalog Ang Salita ng Diyos bible, to name just a few of the foreign language bibles all these words are found in.
All these words are also found in both the Modern Greek Bible - λεγοντες να περιτεμνησθε και να φυλαττητε τον νομον, and in the Modern Hebrew Bible - יען וביען שמענו כי יצאו מאתנו מבלבלים אתכם ומקלקלים נפשתיכם בדברים באמרם לכם להמול ולשמר את התורה אשר לא צוינו אותם׃
It comes down to the Reformation Bibles versus the Roman Catholic and the new Vatican Versions like the RSV, ESV, NIV, NASB, NET and Holman Standard versions.
The Vatican has made a formal agreement with the UBS to create an inter confessional text to help unite “the separated brethren”, and most of present day Christiandumb has drunk of the wine of the fornication of the Whore of Babylon. Nobody, not even the people who keep churning out these short lived modern versions, believes any of them are the complete and inerrant words of God.
For proof of these statements, see Undeniable Proof the ESV, NIV, NASB, Holman Standard, NET etc. are the new "Vatican Versions"
All of grace, believing the Book,
